What can I expect?
Find out more about what to expect when you visit The DECC.
We know meeting new people to talk about difficult things can feel scary. Read on to find out what to expect from therapeutic support.

Therapeutic support means receiving support from a specially trained person, such as a practitioner or therapist. They might support you with difficult feelings, thoughts or changes that might be happening in your life.
At The DECC, we may provide this support to your foster carer(s) or even adults at school. We will help them to understand what you might be thinking or feeling, because if they feel more confident in supporting you, this should make things easier for you too.

We know that talking about the way you feel can sometimes be difficult. We use activities like drawing, painting, or playing to help you talk about your feelings.
Therapeutic sessions can be with you and your foster carers together or separately. We will find out what works for you!

Sessions will usually happen at one of our bases in either Derby City or Cromford. We will find a space that makes you feel comfortable and safe.
Sometimes, we may also meet with your trusted adults online, over Microsoft Teams or even visit your school or home.
The DECC is a team of caring people who have experience in working with, and supporting young people who have had difficult life experiences. You might meet a social worker, a play therapist or a friendly member of our business support team who will be around to greet you with a smile!
If you know the name of the person you are coming to see, visit our 'Meet our team' page to find out more about them!
