Your Information – Key things we think you need to know
The DECC Service is here to help children and young people who are in care or a care leaver, with their emotional wellbeing. It is a service provided by Action for Children, which is a charity. When an adult in your life thinks you might need a service from us, the local authority responsible for your care might get in touch with us.
As a children’s charity, we will process information about you that we need in order to provide you with this service. This information will be held by us and in some cases the local authority responsible for your care. Once we have this information stored on our systems, we will hold onto it for a period of time - the length of time depends on the circumstances, but it will be in line with our charity’s policies.
We may share your information with relevant authorities where it is necessary to do so, for example with social workers, teachers, police, commissioners, etc. The reasons we might need to share information could be:
- To safeguard or protect individuals at risk.
- To prevent a crime.
- To make sure we are treating people fairly and equally.
- To ensure people have the right support for disability or health reasons.
- For insurance purposes and other legal reasons.
