Inclusion Awareness Training
Working together we can start building a more inclusive Northamptonshire
Action for Children in Northamptonshire have joined up with West Northamptonshire Council and Northamptonshire Sport to offer Inclusion Awareness Training to providers of HAF Clubs (Holiday Activity and Food Clubs). 4 sessions have already been delivered either online or face to face.
Together we are helping to make sessions as inclusive as possible and are increasing the confidence of providers to open up more places to children and young people with disabilities. Providers said about the session;
“The course allowed myself and some of our coaches to really think about and discuss the importance of being as inclusive as we can be!”
“We are going to make amendments to our SEN/D policy and procedures adding in individual risk assessments”.
“We took some ideas for preparations we can put in place for any SEN/D children that attend our clubs.”
“We learned some new ways to be inclusive and enhance our delivery”
Our qualified Teacher, Megan Bennett, said that
"The training has already proven to be a great way to bring providers together, to explore ways of making their provision more accessible and inclusive for young people who want to attend. The aim of these sessions is not to find fault, but to celebrate existing good practice and work collaboratively to develop ideas that create even more inclusive opportunities. Even small adjustments can make a huge difference, both for individual children and for their wider peer groups. We cannot simply say we are inclusive; we need to demonstrate it through our actions."
