Support for young people leaving care

Supporting care experienced young people to develop the resilience and skills needed for work & independence.

Our care leavers projects

Been in care and not sure what’s next? If you’re 15–25 and have been in the care of the States of Guernsey, the Next Steps project is here to support you. If you’re not quite ready to move into work or education, we’ll help you build confidence, emotional wellbeing, and practical skills at your own pace.

Over 6 months (with ongoing support if needed), you’ll:

  • Talk through your goals and what support you might need
  • Work through barriers like housing, money, or confidence
  • Build skills like CV writing, interview prep, and communication
  • Take part in Resilient Futures sessions to boost wellbeing and resilience

Build resilience for the future! Resilient Futures is a programme created by Bounce Forward and delivered by Action for Children. It’s designed for young people aged 16–25 who want to build confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of self.

Over 6 to 8 one-to-one or small group sessions, you’ll explore how your thoughts and beliefs shape how you see yourself, your learning, and your future.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Strengthen your sense of self
  • Build belief in your abilities and manage setbacks
  • Recognise your strengths and show your best self

Ready to step straight into work? If you’re care experienced and looking to get into employment, we’re here to help you build the skills and confidence to get started. Through three focused sessions, we’ll give you practical tools to boost your chances of finding and securing a job.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

  1. CV support – create or improve your CV to highlight your strengths
  2. Applications – understand job descriptions and write confident applications
  3. Interview prep – build confidence and learn how to present your best self
