Support for young people with work & wellbeing

Supporting young people to build wellbeing, resilience and employability skills needed to thrive in independence.

Our Work and Wellbeing projects

Are you thinking about improving your skills to enter work? Or joining projects that improve your resilience or well-being?

If you want to boost your confidence, look after your well-being, and join projects that strengthen your resilience, our Get Skills programme is here for you. We offer group sessions, workshops, and projects delivered by Action for Children and our partners.

You’ll learn practical tools to manage stress, improve your well-being, and build skills that enhance your CV and prepare you for employment. It’s all about helping you feel confident, capable, and ready for the future.

Each project has limited spaces and sign up via our events/what's on page or with your key worker is required.

This service is prioritised for young people who are care‑experienced, adopted, or who have spent time in custody under the age of 18.

Do you want extra support as you take steps towards work and independence? Our programme offers one‑to‑one with weekly sessions designed to help you develop the skills you need to feel confident and ready for the future.

We’ll work with you to build skills that matter, such as gaining job experience, boosting motivation, searching for opportunities, and developing stability. You’ll also learn practical basics, workplace and social skills, and ways to look after your health and wellbeing.

Build resilience for the future! Resilient Futures is a programme created by Bounce Forward and delivered by Action for Children. It’s designed for young people aged 16–25 who want to build confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of self.

Over 6 to 8 one-to-one or small group sessions, you’ll explore how your thoughts and beliefs shape how you see yourself, your learning, and your future.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Strengthen your sense of self
  • Build belief in your abilities and manage setbacks
  • Recognise your strengths and show your best self

Need someone to be your person? Action Mentoring offers one-to-one support for young people aged 11–25 through trained volunteer mentors. It’s about having someone who listens, encourages you, and helps you work through everyday challenges or big decisions.

Your mentor will meet with you regularly, at your pace, and support you in building confidence, setting goals, or simply being heard. They are trained in the use of skills such as motivational interviewing and solution focused approaches, meaning they can help you to navigate issues that you face.

You may be eligible if you’ve

  • Had support from Action for Children before
  • Have experience of or are a Child in Care
  • Have experienced exploitation or missing episodes
  • Been in youth detention or prison
  • Identify as LGBTQ+
  • Have been identified by Children's services

Looking for a space to just be yourself? Social Spaces are open to all young people aged 17–25 whether you’ve used our services before or not. These relaxed, welcoming sessions are a chance to meet new people, try something different, or simply hang out in a safe and friendly environment.

What to expect:

  • Weekly drop-ins to chat, connect, and unwind with peers and trusted adults
  • One-off trips, creative sessions, learning opportunities and outdoor activities
  • A chance to build confidence, make friends, and explore new interests
  • A chance to talk to trained casual staff or volunteers.

You have helped a ton! You helped get my confidence up and I felt more prepared to get into working and out more and put more effort into what I am doing
