Online help and support in Devon

Advice and Guidance Line

We offer a free confidential advice and guidance helpline service for families in Devon.

By calling 0800 538 5458 (free from UK landlines and mobile phones) families in Devon will be able to speak directly to one of our Family Hub Navigators who will be able to provide support and guidance – whether you’re having a parenting issue or you’re feeling overwhelmed with the pressures of family life, a member of our friendly, supportive team will be able to give you guidance and signpost you to information and advice and help you with understanding and accessing relevant services and information.

Opening hours:

Our Advice & Guidance line is open Monday – Friday from 10am until 4pm, outside of these hours you can leave a message and we’ll call you back during these hours. Alternatively, if you would prefer, you can fill in a very short Request for Callback form and one of our practitioners will call you back during our opening hours.

When you phone our Advice and Guidance line, you’ll be presented with a series of options. By pressing option 1 you will be put through to a member of our team. Once you're connected with an adviser, they will introduce themselves. They will also take some contact details for you and ask a few questions about the child or young person you’re calling about.

During your call, the adviser will listen to you and give you the space to talk through your concerns and offer support. The adviser will do their best to provide you with as much helpful information, practical advice and support relating to your concerns or questions and will ensure that you feel confident about next steps.

Depending on the nature of your call, the advisor will either provide you with signposting to other services or give you the option to attend one of our online webinars or workshops or attend one of the face-to-face services that we offer in the Family Hubs, such as Step-by-Step and Let’s Talk, Read and Play Groups. They may also, if relevant, offer you a Single Session of one hour with one of our trained practitioners – this can either be digital or face-to-face. For more information about Single Sessions please see further down on this page.

Please note that we are unable to offer legal or medical advice, but we can signpost you to someone who will be able to help.

After your call, you will receive a follow up email with information about the resources and services that may be able to help you further.

Your call will be completely confidential. This means we will not share your information with anyone else unless we have significant concerns about someone’s safety.

Single Session Approach

This is initially a one-off appointment to help you explore the situation you would like to discuss and identify the next steps that work for you and your family.

A Single Session Approach is often enough to help clarify, reassure, or highlight areas for change and you may find no further sessions are needed however if you choose to access further support with the Family Hub, we have a range of interventions that we can discuss with you. Sessions can last up to 1 hour and you will be able to leave with an agreed action plan.

Please complete a request for contact form if this is a service you are interested in.
